CWFF 09 Big Film Quiz

Times/Places
Thur 3 Sep 1900 – 2200 Marriott West India Quay

Free your mind. The CWFF 09 Big Film Quiz is no ordinary pub quiz. Following a hugely successful first outing earlier this year in central London’s Future Gallery, we’ve decided to treat you to more!

This is an all-singing, all-dancing* extravaganza of film trivia to blow the bloody doors off. With big-screen, big-sound and live rounds like ‘That Guy Who Was In Stuff’, ‘Foreign Movie Titles’ and the hectic ‘Higher or Lower’, it’ll test your head, and your mind, and your brain. Expect top prizes, free beer**, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!

It’s not even housed in a pub but at the rather special Marriott Hotel, itself a location for several films. They’ll still have drinks and snacks for sale, though. So come down and do something different with your Thursday! Welcome to the party, pal.

*Singing and dancing not guaranteed. But likely.
**One per person.

Tickets and Teams
It’s £6 per person, max 6 per team and you must be over 18. Teams will battle it out for the top prizes, while everyone is in with a chance to win spot prizes throughout the night. Buy your team’s tickets in advance here:

Times/Places
Fri 4 Sep Museum of London Docklands

1500 – 1545 Pitching Session
1545 – 1645 Next Generation Films
1645 – 1730 Pitching Session continues…

Next Generation – Filmmaking Workshop: FREE
The next generation of filmmakers is what CWFF, with support from the Canary Wharf Group, likes to help cultivate, so part of the festival’s plan is to give them a helping hand to set them on their way.

So, alongside Chocolate Films we will also be running a workshop throughout the summer, specifically for East London students interested in learning about the filmmaking process. Storyboarding, filming and editing skills will all be within their reach and the film they create will be shown as part of CWFF 09’s Next Generation Film screening. There’s also a Special Achievement prize, awarded at this year’s Awards Show.

Next Generation – Pitching Session: FREE
So how do you get your film idea made? Pitch it, that’s how. At the festival, we’ll be running a pitching session where young people, aged 16-25, can present their film idea to a panel of experts and win prizes! The top 5 selected to pitch will all receive screenwriting software and the winner gets an invaluable training course courtesy of Central Film School.

The pitchers will also get the crucial top tips to help them in their future career from our industry panel: Bob Portal (Central Film School tutor / Producer), Liz Hobbs (Moviescope Magazine), Eleanor Stanway (VET), Olivia Bellas (CWFF Festival Director).

And we have a special guest for you; local east end boy and ‘Shifty’ film director Eran Creevy talks about how he made it up the career ladder and his experiences working with Asher D and big brands like Nike.

If you want to pitch YOUR idea, applications deadline is 27 August. For more information, please email: karen@cwff.org.uk

NB: If you are under 18 please ensure you have parental consent to attend this event.

It’s free to attend the pitching session and all the Next Generation films and events, so reserve your space here:

Come to the cinema and listen! This may seem a little odd, but it’s what ex-Port of London Authority (PLA) workers and young participants have been exploring through a sensory workshop.

‘Listen: A Soundtrack of Shared Memories’ was developed to provide a learning exchange between communities, laying down a foundation for engagement and heritage participation. Playing on the themes of picture, sound, and memories, the group has worked together to record oral histories, understand sound editing and create a living soundtrack to silent film from the extensive PLA archive. At the Nearby screening you can see the finished product and indulge in an open discussion about it with the group.

Big Bang Lab, is a leading cultural-social enterprise working across film, music and heritage, designing and delivering dynamic creative learning programmes. Leaders in the creative use of corporate archives, they connect companies and communities by linking CSR with Heritage.

Green Sundays Discussion: FREE
It’s all well and good being creative – making films, music, incredible theatre and spectacular events – but how much thought goes into the after-effects? Is there any subsequent damage on the planet as a result? In partnership with Green Sundays, Sunday 6th Sep is all about the creative industries and issues surrounding sustainability.

In our discussion, we’ll be looking at the film, theatre, music and events industries in terms of how our processes can be better managed, keeping things as environmentally sound as possible. Here are our speakers and a little about their organisations.
