About

The festival is made up of a film programme that highlights a range of talented filmmakers within the world of short film. This year, our films will all be under 15 minutes and cover many more genres, screening at East Wintergarden, Museum In Docklands and Cineworld West India Quay. Alongside the films, we also have events that involve both the local community and people further afield. The aim is to get innovative film to those that may not always get the chance to see it, and to get film lovers to see a different side of London within Canary Wharf.

After last year’s festival we took the winning films on a mini screening tour across several eclectic London venues: east London’s Idea Stores, Departure arts centre, The Space, Metropolitan Film School, the Crown and Two Chairmen and Cafe Kick all opened their doors and lit up their projectors to give people a taste of CWFF all year round. We’ll be taking things on the road with CWFF 08’s films as well, so look out for us coming to a venue near you!

The Canary Wharf & Isle of Dogs Movie Map details key filming locations in the local area. The map can be picked up at any of our screening venues and it also holds the answer to our competition.

Plateau is a stunning light-filled restaurant with dramatic views across the rooftops of Canary Wharf, and you may be in for a chance of winning a meal for two there if you can answer this question:

Which film did Plateau appear in?

First sign up to CWFF News on the cwff.org.uk homepage to be entered into the draw – it’s free and simple to do. Then send your answer to
enquiries@cwff.org.uk with the full film title and your contact details by 5pm Sep 1st 2008.

Good Luck!

Photography

CWFF works with creative talent across all media, supporting artists with a strong voice. London-based portrait photographer, Francisco Serrano, shoots with a disarming quality - everyday people as well as those more known; rock band The Guillemots, writer/actor Richard Thomas and former So Solid Crew member, Asher D. His work is above all influenced by cinema, collaborating this year with CWFF on Maybe We Are All Stars.

Running throughout August at the Window Galleries at Canada Place East Retail Mall (opposite Waitrose), the exhibition provides a unique take on blockbuster movies shot in the Canary Wharf area.  Harry Potter, Batman and James Bond - iconic film figures are represented simply, their identity not quite intact.  We are provided with what seems to be a familiar story though something is amiss, making their presence in film not quite so removed from our own. Maybe we are all stars...

CWFF 08’s closing night on 1st September will award the best of the festival in front of a host of filmmakers, industry professionals and the general public. We have launched an open casting call to co-host the event via bethemoviestar.com (BTMS).

The innovative online casting site, run by major festival supporter ROK Motion, is an ever-growing pool of worldwide talent, and CWFF is looking for one of them to be the quick-witted and charismatic host to its prestigious awards show. It’s a unique opportunity to grab the spotlight but be prepared for a rigorous casting process!

If you want to be in with a chance yourself, simply register at the BTMS site and create a cast profile (it’s free). All the details on the call will be there waiting for you. Or if you just want to follow the process then visit the project page on the BTMS site: www.bethemoviestar.com Go on, give it a go!
