The City Speaks: A Film for Radio, is a multi-faceted portrayal of London created for radio, cinema and television, developed from an idea by Peter Ackroyd.

Artist filmmakers were commissioned to collaborate with radio writers to each produce a unique portrait of London. Responding to a narrative framework by writer Ackroyd, the artist and writer teams created a film in six sections:

Ayshe’s Tale

Set within the Turkish community of Dalston and Stoke Newington, Ayshe’s Tale celebrates the
multi-ethnic diversity of this part of East London. The film is a visual platform from which the monologues and dialogues of the radio play are expanded.
