THURSDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER

Screening of Films by John Smith + Q&A

Since 1972 East London filmmaker John Smith has made more than 30 film, video and installation works. His films have been shown internationally in cinemas, art galleries and on television, and awarded major prizes at several worldwide film festivals. He is also Professor of Fine Art at the University of East London.

CWFF will be showing a selection of Smith’s short films, followed by a Q&A session where audience members can put their questions to the man himself about his art, his inspiration and filmmaking in general.

What Have You Done Today Mervyn Day?
Dir: Paul Kelly (57mins)

A collaboration between pop group Saint Etienne and director Paul Kelly, this film is a dreamy snapshot of the Lower Lea Valley and documents the changes it has seen past and present while looking forward to its future as it is developed to house the 2012 Olympic Games.
A different kind of beauty is found in this rough-hewn, overgrown wasteland amid the pylons and dirty canals. Accompanied by a haunting
Saint Etienne soundtrack.
Featuring the voices of David Essex and Linda Robson.




FRIDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER - PART 2

Docklands Vision


East Wintergarden, 43 Bank St, London, E14 4AL
Docklands Vision is a Canary Wharf Film Festival event, forming part of the Limelight Awards Launch, taking place earlier in the evening at the East Wintergarden. The event will showcase short films made about the local area, some made by local filmmakers. It will start with a short introduction by Festival Director, Olivia Bellas and a brief Q&A with Charles Duke - director of BUS STOP - his film is screened as part of the CWFF Docklands programme.

SATURDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER

The Long Good Friday
Dir: John Mackenzie (115mins approx.)

Classic crime thriller starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren. Harold is at the top of London’s crime ladder and about to close a lucrative business deal when an unknown faction starts blowing up his properties and killing off his men. But this is his manor, and Harold isn’t about to let it go without a fight.



MONDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER

CWFF Awards Ceremony

The Culmination. The Grand Finale. The Coup de Grace. Exclusively designed awards by artists forming part of the Creative Wharf network, will be presented to the best selected film in the Drama, Documentary and Animation sections in CWFF’s closing night event.

All events take place at Cineworld, West India Quay, unless otherwise stated.
